Fancy dress

Gareth Pugh S/S 10

Girls:

The designer: Donatella Versace: Orange tan. White blonde wig. Lashings of lip gloss. Big pout. Marlboro Reds. Done.

The stylish: Marie Antoinette: Fashion Week this month saw heavy references to this Austrian queen on the catwalks. Ironically, this mostly happened in Paris with Chanel, Lanvin and Viktor and Rolf making ruffles, pink wigs and dolly make-up key components. Many points added for fashion forwardness.

The obscure: Jonestown cult: Rather oddly, Christopher Kane referenced the Jonestown Cult in his collection for S/S 10. All tablecloth checks and gingham bows. The fact that it alludes to a ‘revolutionary suicide’ in which 918 people died, gives the sweetness a sinister undertone and makes this look perfect Halloween material.

Boys:

The designer: Karl Lagerfeld: White aristocrat wig. Immaculately tied bow. Intricate bow-tie. Classic dinner suit or leather jacket. Fan (to wave away other people’s bad breath). Not forgetting the black shades, this is a great look.

The stylish: Medieval:  Gareth Pugh and many others used chain mail, metallic colours and hard fabrics to create a ‘soldier hero’ icon for their S/S 10 look. A visit to a hardware shop should easily complete your look.
