Hail Griffin?

by Charles Bailey

Charles Bailey explores the claim that the BNP are a Nazi Party.

Nick Griffin: should he banned from our Students' Union

Nick Griffin

I must say on a personal level that the BNP have proved quite a scare for me. The reason we study history is to learn from it, however the comparisons that I have drawn between the BNP today and Nazi Germany caused me some concern. First of all they both were formed out of dissatisfaction; Nazism began after the Treaty of Versailles hit Germany after the First World War and their British equivalent trace their roots to the National Front. In both parties their leaders have not been ones for staying on the right side of the law. Hitler was found guilty of high treason after the Munich Putsch; his failed version of Mussolini’s ‘March on Rome’. Griffin, luckily, has not tried to seize power; instead his preaching of racial hatred and his views on Islam has led to his arrest, but no time behind bars.

Both parties gained a platform to stand on due to a recession. The Wall Street Crash hit Germany hard in 1929, unemployment rose from 1.25 million to 4 million in a year. According to the Nazis the blame for this lay with the Jewish population. In the modern day, we read of how the UK is in a situation worse than 80 years ago. Unemployment stood at 7.9% in August and no one is sure of when the down-turn will end. Do the BNP know who to blame? Yes, every immigrant who lives in this country; their answer, get them out! All so similar to Hitler’s policy. But we have yet to see what Nick Griffin’s “Final Solution” might be.

Pre-1928 the Nazis held 12 seats in the Reichstag, by 1930 it rose to a staggering 107 and after the 1932 election the Nazis were the largest party with 230. The BNP first test to gain their first seat was the European elections early this year. With a proportional electoral system this was their best chance to show the country that they were serious. Unfortunately, for them it fell through, only 2 seats were gained. The “absolutely delighted” Griffin said it would lead to “a huge change in British politics”. Well even he can have a dream, right? Personally, I thought it was a lucky escape.

However, this did lead to Griffin’s first Nuremberg Rally. The BBC saw fit to allow him on to Question Time. Before and after the show people made sure no memory of Griffen’s charisma came through. Protests of his inclusion, followed by every national paper attacking Griffin the next day, made sure that he was not viewed as a victim of the debate. It seems to have helped in some way; the number having a positive impression of the BNP has fallen 2% to 9% since June. While the ‘party’s’ support remains in the 2/3% range, according to Populus; this is lower than UKIP and the Greens.

So it seems that my fears of goose stepping to the bus every morning have gone out the window. However in order to remove them completely we must rely on…. Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling! I’m afraid so, it lies with them ending the recession in the UK before the next election. It was the start of recession which gave Hitler and Griffin a platform and the end of the current one will take the BNP with it. If the recession continues, so will BNP support; if that leads to a BNP MP then their name will live on for another 5 years. Therefore, Gordon it’s up to you….help, even if it’s the last thing you can do. End the story of the new-Hitler, like Churchill would really want!

we dont have to rely on Brown & Darling – we can also take on the BNP directly, support http://www.uaf.org.uk and http://www.lovemusichateracism.com !!!

I doubt if the BNP upsurge has anything to do with recession. they have been growing steadily for 10 years. Don’t worry about them getting in power, the labour government will let in enough immigrants to secure their re-election.
We, the British will not exist soon, so it will not matter anyway.
Don’t let me interrupt your studies at your PC correct nursery school.
Also try to ask people with experience in life before you make outlandish statements like the one above.
Hope that when you leave school, you can view the world from your own perspective.
    Sincerely, Bill

May I suggest you do at least the bare minimum research?

The BNP do not blame immigrants for the state of the country, they blame the government for mismanaging immigration and bailing out their friends the bankers.

Their answer is not to “get them all out,” only illegal/ criminal immigrants and bogus asylum seekers would be deported. That’s been the policy for about ten years now.

Money would be made available to recent immigrants who regret their decision to come here, but lack the funds to return. Just as is currently the case for asylum seekers. The Home Office introduced AVR (Assisted Voluntary Return) programmes in 1999.

Has it crossed your mind that some of the BNP’s members actually fought for this country? What right do you have to compare these brave men to Nazis?

What you should have learned from your history lessons is that governments will often use propaganda to retain power. The way to combat such underhand tactics is for “educated” people to think for themselves instead of blindly believing everything they’re told.

    You should try it.

This article is a perfect example why the BNP are getting bigger….The smears are laughable !!

  6. James Naish Says:

Clearly the BNP voters have had their say. I happen to agree with them on this point – the recession is not the major issue. Immigration, without a doubt, is causing concern. Why is it causing concern? Because tabloid papers have continuously whipped up the country into a stir over the issue, and because of the implication that high immigration will adversely affect material conditions for the masses. On top of this, the betrayal of ordinary people by mainstream parties, really since Thatcher, has convinced most of us that these parties will never offer us the real change that the country needs. For those, then, who buy into the tabloid argument that immigration is the greatest threat to jobs and financial security that this country faces, the BNP appear to be the only party offering real change. The fact that Nick Griffin has given the party a make-over helps, and, without a doubt, the recession has also increased the burden on the wellfare state, and increased unemployment, which in turn makes immigration look even less attractive. It’s not hard to see why the BNP are gaining votes.

To counter this, we need an alternative party that genuinely supports the interests of ordinary people and recognises that this is a fundamental problem with our economic system. Immigration is used to distract people from this point.

1 article for you Charles is that it, got told off for being a PC sheep with no mind of your own and you bottled it. Shame on you come back with some argument at least after you have done your research that is because my god you could do with the practice.

BNP are anything but facist anything but golbal. We ant our country the way it was and for the reset of the world to sort out their own problems, not dumping them on our door thank you very much.

  8. Steve Richards Says:
