We’re seeing the two worlds collide with extreme results. Mixtape volume two, is simply a further remix of this music fashion single; as the industry has moved on from one off capsule collections on the highstreet; cue Lilly Allen again. And onto musicians designing their own labels, now not only can you appreciate an artists musical talent but their design skills too. Client; a world touring electroclash band; have recently launched their own 9 piece capsule collection. Fashion correspondent Jodie Pope met up with Kate Holmes, founder of Client, the fashion label and the band to see what other tricks she has up her sleeve.
With music taking a manufactured turn and fashion falling into the hands of low-cost retailers, it’s safe to say that both industries are lacking in charisma. If you haven’t heard of Client for either its fashion or music offerings, then it’s time for you to be enlightened. Kate Holmes founder of Electroclash band Client, has incorporated sharp, utilitarian style into a revolutionary capsule collection aimed at students and frugal, fashion led alike.
Inspired by David Bowie and German, electro band Kraftwerk, Holmes cleverly integrates synchronized, Eastern-European style into sexy work gear. For, what she describes as a “lifestyle label”, which evolved as a “natural extension of Client’s music”. The underground sounds of the band are undeniably apparent in the designs, a foundation built from the band’s gigs in Berlin and London.
Holmes envisages the collection in everyday environments for everyday people; “It’s for the office dark horse; an interesting uniform dress, but with GVR military button detail”. And the result: a collection that’s captivating, unique with forceful flair, subtly suggestive and yet somehow elegant. After the success of the bands first collection, Client is pushing a new accessories line and a make-up range to compliment the brand.
