Getting the Basics Right

Dissertations are a stressful business. Writing a small thesis on an original topic is a huge academic challenge, and with so much at stake it is no wonder that most students feel the pressure.

The University is meant to guide and support its students through this academic hurdle. However, Religion and Theology students have seen the institution move the goalposts just days before the hand in date, changing deadlines and specifications.

Critical information such as the hand in date and word count should be readily available, clear and fixed from day one. Making this crucial information hard to access and changing it at the last minute only places more pressure on stressed out scholars.

Communication between students and the institution has not always been this University’s strong point, as can clearly be seen in this case. If the University got the basics right, it would leave students to concentrate on the important bits of their study, rather than spend their time grappling with logistics.
