An exclusive Student Direct survey has revealed that Manchester students live up to their party animal reputation, consuming all sorts of illegal substances and binge drinking on a regular basis. Drunken sex, violence and generally disorderly behaviour were rife across the student community.
While it is hardly a revelation that students like to let their hair down, the extent of the drink and drugs craze is alarming. With over 50 percent of drug takers dabbling in class A substances, it has to be remembered why these drugs are so illegal. Not only are hundreds of students risking prison sentences, they are also risking their health.
Despite numerous health campaigns, only one in nine students know how much they should be drinking each week. While it is understandable that students will experiment while at university, they should be fully aware of the risks to both themselves and others.
