My, my, it really has been quite an eventful week for our very own Solem Bar. In addition to the recent introduction of student only prices, the UMSU bar is in line to feature in this month’s Scarlet magazine. The Solem bar plays a starring role in Scarlet’s erotic literature section ‘Cliterature’, containing articles predominantly aimed at women.
Author Emily Dubberley looked to The University of Manchester as inspiration for her series of raunchy novelettes following a succession of steamy anecdotes from “mates who went there and had a wild time”. Flirtation, promiscuity and drinking games that get somewhat out of hand feature heavily in Dubberley’s tale; action that the ‘least erotic place in Manchester’ had previously been lacking.
So, we really are going up in the world. No longer is the Union bar solely home to death-head moshers and wrinkly rockers; this signifies the beginning of fresh and exiting times. Formerly overpriced, dark and, well, wholly asexual, we can confidently look forward to consuming cheap beverages with a bit of added spice in the new-look suavity of the Solem bar.
