For budding Filmmakers still at University the holidays are a great opportunity to get creative, as the reigns of coursework are loosened just enough to dig that camera out. Manchester’s very own Queer Up North festival is introducing it’s own shorts competition this year, with few stringent guidelines and open to creative minds, above all. The closing date for entries is 11th April, so those of you with an eye for the cinematically queer best get rolling soon!

The ¡Viva! Festival has been simply wonderful thus far, meeting and surpassing expectations as the days go by, though it’s only a short while in. For those of you yet to experience ¡Viva!’s delights, or for those a little hesitant to dive into the overwhelming number of movies available, the shorts selections present a strong sample. Thursday’s Los Que Se Van showcase popular Spanish work, whilst Sunday’s IMCINE 25 is an eclectic Mexian mix. Also coming up this weekend is Año Uña, another UK premiere and widely held to be a future hit. Though films are showing until Sunday, Saturday’s Año Uña screening marks the closing Gala so snap up tickets quick!
