Cine City

Over the Easter Break, London was awash with big film events, from sneaky peeks to archive oddities and accessible premieres:

The Total Film / Sky Movies Red Carpet Preview brought the Tinseltown effect to everyday punters at Odeon Cinemas across the UK, with their first, unique “forward-looking film event”. All the clips, trailers, star appearances and goody-bag give-aways certainly whet the appetite for films as diverse as Brit romcom Three and Out and sure-fire hits Indiana Jones and The Dark Knight. Reminding audiences that the anticipation of great films is half the magic, there’ll be a long queue for next year’s preview event.

Off the mainstream track, the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and London International Documentary Festival showed a huge amount of innovative and experimental films, both fresh off the reels and prized out of dusted-off cans. Both will be touring up to Manchester in coming months and presenting many films that challenge preconceptions and reveal shocking truths. Not to be missed.
