Contort Yourself @ the Roadhouse

Every first and third Saturday of the month, the Roadhouse brings us Contort Yourself. It’s an eclectic melange of electronic music with anything being played, from Electro and Drum & Bass to Dub. The night also boasts an extensive and very impressive list of previous guests which include CSS, Nightmoves and South Central.

In this week’s edition, eleven local DJs were showcased. This involved DJs from Barbed Wire Kisses, Team Yeah! and the well-known Sex With Robots DJs. Each set of DJs were given a thirty minutes to attempt to win over the crowd.

With such an enticing line up of acts it took next to no time for the dance floor to be sufficiently full and for people to begin dancing. The theme of thirty-minute sets proved quite successful, as a change in the musical style seemed to keep people guessing. However, although the regular style change was welcomed by most, it was evident that after one DJ had just finished their set and another had taken the reins, some of the crowd weren’t ready for something different after such a short amount of time.
After each act had a spot in the limelight, they came together to end the night on a high in an outstanding free for all. The DJs mixed tunes and gave their own takes on dance classics such as Armand Van Helden’s “U Don’t Know Me” resulting in the venue erupting with almost everyone staying until closing.

One notably excellent performance was that of the flamboyant Will Tramp! who was as entertaining to watch as he was to listen to.

Although the regular Contort Yourself night is held at the Roadhouse, the DJs are ever present throughout the city, playing at other nights held at Sankeys, The Deaf Institute and Mint Lounge, so it would be surprising if you didn’t stumble across them soon!

This night was extremely successful for the respective DJs as they got to advertise themselves and their own club nights at the same time as creating a unique and exciting experience for anyone who attended.
