LOOKING AT the gaggles of 40-50 somethings bouncing up the stairs of the Apollo like excited schoolchildren (along with a fair few real schoolchildren), it would be easy to dismiss Ms Tunstall as an artist for the tired and middle-aged.
Based on tonight’s performance I’d be reluctant to slate her too heavily. KT is a consistently natural, funny show-woman who, together with her band, gives a slick performance. But despite flying the ‘Drastic...’ flag with energetic opener ‘Little Favours’ and the lovely ‘Hopeless’, inevitably it’s the old stuff that’s particularly well-received; ‘Other Side of the World’ is gorgeous, the rousing bridge of ‘Feels Like Home’ would surely bring a smile to the face of the most jaded music snob, and her fantastic solo rendition of ‘Black Horse And The Cherry Tree’ stands as firm proof of all she’s capable of. She is a strummer for sure, but a darn good one.
