Having arrived in time to catch the end of Revenge Tragedies’ last tune, whose selling point is David Bowie’s vocal clone, the main attraction at Jim Noir’s album launch homecoming was about to roll into action.
Unbeknown then was that a 40-minute hits set was all that the local multi-instrumentalist was offering, leaving 50 minutes until curfew and no encore. As disappointments go this wasn’t major, but Jim Noir could have mounted an aural assault befitting of a show celebrating the addition of the eponymous second album to an already impressive armoury.
New song ‘All Right’ recalls Moon Safari-era Air through a vocoder and the knitted-jumper-clad Noir flashes the showman within him by breaking into guitar solo before self-consciously turning down the attention. And in that moment the gig was summed up; despite some witty banter the frontman never really came out of his shell.
