Avant-Garden

As spring approaches, and the daffodils bloom once more, it’s time to think about reflecting this burst of nature in our wardrobe with one of this season’s biggest trends: florals.

No longer seen as the choice of older women with a penchant for Laura Ashley, floral patterns could be seen growing all over this season’s catwalks; from bold, bright maxi dresses at Stella McCartney to monochrome prints at Oscar de la Renta. Even Roberto Cavalli turned away from his trademark animal-prints, planting some most desirable whimsical florals on floaty dresses.

Back on the high street, New Look and Topshop combine florals with delicate ruffles, lace, bleached denim and layers, suggesting a new more relaxed way of dressing. However, if you want a look that’s more street than sweet, why not combine fluorescent florals with black patent accessories and a motif t-shirt for a more edgy appearance.

If full-on florals aren’t your thing, Topshop have a wide range of flower-inspired brooches, necklaces and rings to ensure that you inject even if just a seedling of nature into your wardrobe this season.

The natural look is also reflected in our make-up this season. Dewy fresh skin, iridescent eye shadows and natural waves in our hair offset the bold tones of rose-red worn on the lips.

So get out of those winter blues and look towards spring in fresh-faced florals.
