The Aftershow at Sankeys
Thursday 4th October

When Danny McNamara of Embrace became tired with the massive emphasis on VIP style club nights, he decided to do something about it. McNamara launched The Aftershow almost one month ago featuring a quality mixture of bands and DJs and where everyone’s a VIP.

The idea of The Aftershow is simple. You pay a fiver (£4 if you’re a student) to see four top bands and you get a club night afterwards. The night has already seen the likes of The Magic Numbers, The Ting Tings and The Answering Machine and it’s only been going a few of weeks! Another benefit of Sankey’s is the choice of three rooms = three different styles of music.

This week’s headliner is Keith, a band who met whilst studying music at the University of Manchester. The band are taking time out from recording their second album to play tonight and are not to be missed. Supporting are the brilliant Carlis Star (pictured) who have been causing a storm on the local music scene, gathering coverage from the MEN to the NME. After playing this year’s Leeds Festival, as well as D:Percussion the band have been labelled “the ones to watch” for 2007. Mancunian lads Rowley open the night, followed by the highly recommended Working for a Nuclear Free City. Stick around ‘til the end of the night for DJ sets from the lads from Embrace. Don’t worry about how to get there, the free Sankeys bus will pick you up. Check out sankeys.info for pick up points.

The Aftershow offers a refreshing change from the same old boring indie clubs in town. Get yourself down there on Thursday.
