THE FOUNDERS of the up-and-coming institution that is Prostitutes and Policeman met almost exactly one year ago. Manchester student Alex Hope stunned Graeme Borland during a DJ set by playing Hustler by Simian Mobile Disco, relatively unheard of at the time. Together the two resolved to set up their own club night, to compliment and rival the great nights our city has to offer.

Although the two are based in guitar music, their club night is built around more electronic sounds, but the music policy is not particularly strict. “We base our bookings on acts we buzz off rather than any specific music type,” explains Alex. Mixmag have recently reviewed the event and were impressed with the quality of acts P&P have attracted and the duo’s ‘forward thinking’. It’s clear the two DJs are not out just to make money, but to create an individual vibe that gives the night strength and depth.

But it’s not all play and no work. In fact, Alex was out till 3am most mornings of Freshers’ week flyering and up again at 9am. “Promo is important” he explains. “What’s the point of having a night that only your housemates know about?”

This Friday’s headliner is Swiss multi-talent HEADMAN, who boasts being the official DJ of the tour by the 2 Many DJs. Other sets include Diesel U Music award winner DUKE DUMONT, Nottingham's No. 1 producer NIGHTMOVES as well as the electro sounds of HOSTAGE.

P&P resides at Zoo on the last Friday of every month. Ensure you get down there for the unmissable set this Friday.
