A FLYPOSTER was fined for illegally advertising near the University last week.
26-year-old David Coley was fined £400 for posting advertisements for the infamous Athletic Union Wednesday night Social along Oxford Road last September.
He was also ordered to pay £429.90 in additional costs.
Manchester City Council launched an investigation against Mr Coley after spotting the illegal posters advertising the Athletic Union Social club night.
Oxford Road has been specifically targeted by the Council to reduce the amount of flyposting, which is considered an environmental crime.
Signs warning of potential prosecution have been erected along the busy road and officers from The Street Management Group patrolled the area daily.
"Flyposting has a negative impact on our residents' quality of life and the city council takes a very dim view of it," said Councillor Eddy Newman, Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services.
Mr Coley was the second person prosecuted for flyposting in recent weeks. A promoter for club night TRAMP! was fined £10,000 for five counts of flyposting earlier last month.
Councillor Newman added: "The courts have reinforced our message that this action will not be tolerated."
A spokeswoman for the Athletic Union said the incident had probably occurred before their new licenses had been set up.
"Now anyone who flyposts for us has to have a license," she said.
The Athletic Union currently holds eighteen flyposting licenses.
