A COUNCIL worker who drove his car around without a tax disc for three years was ready to see his vehicle get crushed.
Manchester solicitor Ged Towey, whose job involves applying for Asbos against troublesome teens, had been previously warned he was breaking the law but failed to respond.
The Salford Council worker’s Renault Clio was last week waiting in a police approved garage, ready to be crushed.
Mr Towey’s untaxed parked car was in Swinton, close to Elmstead House where he works, when it was spotted by an eagle-eyed patrolling police officer.
It was the third and final time that the untaxed car had been caught by officials. Law enforcers wrote to the lawyer when his car was first caught on a police number plate recognition camera in March this year.
Mr Towey, who has been employed by the council for four years, works for the council’s legal team.
In response to this story Salford’s council leader, John Merry, said: “We would support the police taking action against anybody that did not have a tax disc for their car.”
This story comes as a strict warning to all those drivers who continue to flout the law and not renew their tax discs under the assumption that the police will not find them out.
