A NEW chancellor is set to be elected at The University of Manchester.
Candidates are being sought to replace former newsreader Anna Ford and Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy, who will both stand down later this year.
Nominations for the new chancellor, who will serve a seven-year term, will close in April with voting taking place in June.
Staff and alumni will elect the next chancellor from a list of candidates.
"No nominations have been received, but anyone who receives support from twenty or more staff or alumni will be eligible," a spokesman said.
"Alumni are eligible to vote online and the process will be monitored by an independent body."
The honorary post involves chairing meetings and representing the University at formal occasions, such as graduations.
Previous incumbents include Nobel Prize winning physicist Sir John Cockroft, businessman Sir Roland Smith and ex-MEN editor Brian Redhead.
