RAG Awards for Local Charities

AN AWARDS ceremony held in Whitworth Hall last week saw nineteen local charities receive a slice of the £12,000 that Manchester Rag have raised this year.

While most of the money raised by Rag is for a particular charity, every year some is raised without any indication of where it should go.

Most charities received similar amounts of money, however Sue Ryder Care received a little extra due to their fire walking event being cancelled because of health and safety concerns by the Union management earlier this year.

RAG volunteer, Ruth Alderson, said: "It was a really lovely event for the volunteers and the charities that we help.

"It was also an opportunity for the charities to say thank you, which Rainbow House did by giving us a day of training with Manchester United."

The charities benefiting also included Macmillan Cancer Support, Royal Schools for Deaf Manchester and Christies hospital.
