MANCHESTER ROWERS undertook an incredible 24 hour rowing marathon outside the Students' Union last week, all in the name of charity.
The oar-some round the clock session raised more than £2,000 for good causes.
A team of twenty burly rowers from The University of Manchester boat club took it in turns on the rowing machine outside the Union.
Divided into two competing teams, rowers swapped after ten exhausting minutes. Despite the cold January weather, the rowers were only protected by a small tent.
The round the clock marathon, which lasted from 5pm on Monday to Tuesday evening last week, raised £2,281.72 for charity.
All of the funds raised will go to Sparks – the Sport Aiding Medical Research for Kids charity – who sponsor many research projects into conditions afflicting babies and children, like cerebral palsy and cancer.
"We're doing this to support Sparks, who do really great work in medical research and help so many children. We're so glad we can help them," said one enthusiastic rower.
