STUDENTS' UNION bars have started offering a discount to students because they have become rammed with greasy-haired bikers and gig goers.
Bar staff in the Solem Bar in the Steve Biko building have made the move to keep students drinking in the Union.
University of Manchester students who produce their ID card when ordering will be entitled to a ten percent discount.
While everybody else has to dish out on the higher nightly prices, students with valid IDs pay the same cheap prices all day.
Bar staff said that the decision to introduce the discount was made due to the high number of non-students who buy cheap drinks in the bar while attending gigs at the Academies.
"It's a student membership bar, and we don't really want the general public drinking in there," said a member of staff.
"It's not that you get cheaper drinks when you have a student card, it's that you get more expensive drinks when you don't," said the source.
The student discount initiative does not cover bars in Academy One.
