Morocco and Prague Hitch Plans Under Way

A TEAM of fundraisers will be hitchhiking all the way to Morocco to raise money for charity.

The fundraisers will hitch lifts with truckers and get into family cars as they make their way across Europe and into Africa.

Would-be competitors were last week desperately trying to raise the minimum £300 sponsorship so they can take part in the challenge.

All proceeds will go to the Link Community Development project, who are committed to helping children in under developed areas of Africa access the education and training that they need in order to get out of poverty.

The University of Manchester's Morocco and Prague Hitch is one of the biggest fundraisers for the project.

Students are challenged to get all the way to their destination purely by hitchhiking.

All competitors will leave at the same time and race to Morocco when the challenge takes place over Easter.

In previous years competitors have managed to blag their way from Manchester to Morocco in just six days.

Charlie Mortimer, a third year Social Anthropology student, is currently raising money for her hitch to Morocco: "We are planning cake sales, carol singing, a band night and waxing our friends backs in order to raise the money.

"Me and my partner are aiming to raise £1,000 between us, its going ok but obviously its difficult to juggle all this fundraising with our dissertations and stuff!

"I'm looking forward to getting to Morocco because I've heard of how beautiful it is and I really want to see the mountain ranges."

When asked how she is going to complete the journey Mortimer commented: "I've been told that long distance lorry drivers are the best bet because they are so desperate for someone to speak to."
