What is Student Direct?

Student Direct is the largest student newspaper in the U.K, covering news and views for students at university in Manchester.

With a readership of over 50,000, it serves the Universities of Manchester, Salford and Bolton. It is a weekly publication which is distributed every Monday during term-time in the Union and around campus.

Student Direct is an anarchic tabloid, covering everything from arson in Rusholme to investigations into cuts in teaching hours. It’s also a place where opinions are voiced and writers get the chance to challenge the status quo. Indirect is the paper’s magazine section containing reviews of arts, music and films around Manchester, and lifestyle pages focused on sex and dating. Student Direct also contains information on what the Students’ Union is up to and how you can get involved.

Student Direct is always looking for contributors- and you can commit as much or as little time as you want. Most people who write for Student Direct hadn’t written for a newspaper before they came to university, but some of those who have worked on the paper have gone on work among the country’s best and most respected journalists.
